“OWN NOW“ was our groundbreaking creative arts and dementia project set up in 2011.
Skipton, Settle and Bentham. Pioneer Projects ran Creative Art sessions for people living with dementia and their carers in Skipton, Settle and Bentham. Each 2-hour session offers a range of creative arts activities. We make artwork, including 3D sculptures and are enjoying storytelling sessions which increasingly involve some singing. We support all participants with dementia to use and develop their own ideas. The groups meet at The Looking Well in Bentham, the Friends Meeting House in Settle and the Friends Meeting House in Skipton.
Carers Group. There is a new Pioneer Projects Carers Group meeting once a month at The Looking Well in Bentham. This group is a safe, creative and supportive setting for people to meet together.
We celebrated the achievements of the groups by holding annual exhibitions for the Craven Community to enjoy.
Abbot Hall in Kendal. We have trained and supported staff and volunteers at The Lakeland Arts Trust in Cumbria who are now facilitating a weekly ‘Enriched by Moments’ session at Abbot Hall in Kendal. Enriched by Moments is a programme of activities and events designed to engage people living with dementia and their carers (www.abbothall.org.uk)
Malham Tarn. Pioneer Projects and the National Trust have held 6 events at The Orchid House at Malham Tarn in 2014. These creative Storytelling sessions (www.timeslips.org) are very popular and a lot of fun.
The Folly Art Gallery and Museum. The two enormously successful ‘Looking at’ creative art event was held at The Folly Art Gallery and Museum (www.ncbpt.org.uk) in Spring 2014. We enjoyed the setting of the beautiful building, having a go at spinning, exploring fascinating objects from the Folly collection, relaxing together with others over tea and cakes and conversation.
